One of the most keenly fought competitions at Frinton Golf Club is the annual contest between the men and the ladies for the McManus Bowl. The men had won the bowl in 2008 and retained it in 2009 so it was no surprise that the ladies team for 2010 looked as strong on paper as it turned out to be on the course. Leading from the front, lady captain Lyn Lawrence with her playing partner Caroline Warwick saw off the challenge from men's team Captain Alan Rusbridge playing with Malcolm King. The ladies pairing eventually ran out comfortable winners by 3 and 2 and giving the ladies team a perfect start.

By the time the final result was due the ladies were leading in the match by 4 games to 3 but a win for the men would leave the match in a tie meaning the McManus Bowl would be retained by the men. Sadly for the men in the closing game the ladies team of Sandra Russell-Gatward and Val Nicholls were acknowledging their victory against Rodney Lee and Jon Russell-Gatward without the need to play out the 18th hole having won by 2 and 1 and sealing the result in favour of the ladies by 5 games to 3.

In the customary gracious speech of the losing Captain, Alan Rusbridge complimented the ladies on their victory; a result that was made complete when Lyn Lawrence received the McManus Bowl for the ladies team.
