Ladies take centre stage at Frinton Golf Club
Article Published: Thursday 14th October 2010 17:49:40 pmA lot of ladies golf has been played in a short period of time with a Bronze team match, a friendly match and the Ladies Challenge Bowl. The Bronze team travelled to Canons Brook Golf Club in Harlow for what always looked a difficult match. Despite the obvious benefit of home advantage on a parkland course that is very different to Frinton, the ladies acquitted themselves extremely well and secured a narrow 4 wins to 3 to secure the match. Individual scores were for Frinton, Michelle Lawton won 2 & 1, Jan Wright won 5 & 4, Judy Little lost 5 & 4, Lin Dalgleish won 3 & 1, Ginny Richardson won 4 & 3, Caroline Gard lost 5 & 4, Lyn Lawrence lost 3 & 2.
In a friendly match, Frinton ladies entertained Newton Green Golf Club, the match finished in a draw at 2 games each.
On Tuesday the blue sky and non stop sunshine could not mask the biting and often blustery wind as the Frinton ladies played in a medal round for the Ladies Challenge Bowl which was first presented in 1931 by F. C. M. Van Zwanenburg and has always since been affectionately referred to as the Van Zwanenburg Bowl. Joan Horner maintained her usual steady game and returned an excellent nett score of 74 to win the event.
Meanwhile the men were also busy. On Saturday a full field played in a stableford event. Best score of the day went to Mark Needham who returned 41 points; his reward was to have his handicap promptly cut from 28 to 26. Graham Cox came second with 39 points and Wayne Ross third with 38.
The Seniors Section held their Spring Bonanza on Monday 12th April.
Thirty six golfers played a stableford competition in bright and sunny but blustery conditions which was a factor in the rather moderate scores returned. The winner was IanTee (35pts) who won on countback from Tony Kerley. Ian Tee also won the nearest the pin on the 3rd and David Pierce won nearest the pin with his third shot to the 18th.
