Captains' Swansong 2010
Article Published: Wednesday 7th April 2010 14:22:24 pmFrinton Golf Club, via the Captain’s Swansong event, bade a fond farewell to the departing Captain, Alan Rusbridge, and Lady Captain, Joan Withycombe, as their year of office comes to a close on Easter Saturday. It was testament to their efforts throughout the year that a full field of 80 competitors turned out on a cold windy morning for the 9am shotgun start. The event is a greensomes stableford with mixed, ladies or gents pairings.
The winning ladies pair were Barbara Thorpe and Helen Barr with 34 points. In the all male pairs, Peter Irwin and Liam Wilson outscored the field with an excellent 43 points. However top honours for the day went to the mixed pair of James Hide and Jeanne Nokes with an outstanding score of 44 points. The result was all the more notable as it completely disproved any wrongly held beliefs either that Frinton Golf Club men do not like playing with ladies or that high and low handicappers can never play together (James Hide plays off a handicap of 4 and Jeanne Nokes plays off 36). A packed Clubhouse applauded the outgoing Captains who were warmly praised in the winner’s speech given by James Hide.
