Ladies Centenary and Handicap Salvers
Article Published: Wednesday 5th August 2009 08:46:19 amThe ladies premier events at Frinton Golf Club were decided after two consecutive days of 18 holes of golf. In the 36 hole scratch championship, Marie Ellis extended her winning sequence to an impressive sixth victory. A combined total of 179 was 14 shots better than the 193 of second placed Angela Low with Sheila Attrill a further shot behind on 194.
The 36 hole handicap championship witnessed a new name to be engraved on the Salver. Jodi Rutherford, fulfilling the potential she had originally demonstrated as a junior playing on the nine hole Kirby Course, hit top form at exactly the right time and scored an impressive net 140 from her handicap of 34. Caroline Gard finished second with 155 net from a handicap of 27, Joan Horner was third on countback with 157 from a handicap of 30.
Both of the events commenced in 1995 and it was greatly appreciated by everyone taking part that the 2009 presentation of the Scratch Championship Salver was performed by Wendy Chamberlain, daughter-in-law of Mrs G Chamberlain who had presented the salver to the club, and in the case of the Handicap Championship by Janet McMillan who had originally presented the salver to the Club.
