At Frinton GC, all Havers course members were eligible to play for the Vandenburg Cup on Sunday, a singles stableford event. The weather was daunting to say the least – gale force winds and pelting rain.

30 brave men finished the 18 holes, with Steven Deacon winning it with 37 stableford points. Dave Killick scored 35 points and was awarded second place on count back, just ahead of Matthew Hobbs.

It was a bit wet underfoot, but the rain held off for the ladies on Tuesday. Two competitions were held simultaneously.

The Van Zwannenburg Bowl is a strokeplay event for winners and runners up of monthly medals. Angela Low took home the silverware, winning it with a score of 70 nett. Deborah Tanner had another good day, coming in second on count back with 74, just ahead of Jemma Jackson.

In the stableford competition, the winner was Marie Gibson with 39 points. Three women finished with 34 points. Mary Strutt was awarded second place on count back, ahead of Captain Viv Stansfield and Marilyn Clarke.

On Thursday, the past Ladies Captains gathered to play a 10-hole stableford for the trophy first played for in 1986, when it was donated by then-Lady Captain Edna Giles. Judy Taylor and Ginny Richardson both scored 18 points, with Taylor named winner on count back.
