Frinton GC Men’s section has had its first major competition of the season. The Arthur Havers Trophy, a scratch medal event, is one of the three competitions that determines the Club Championship. A 36-hole contest over two days, the winner this year was Kevin Smith with a score of 143. James Taggart had a great first day, after which he partied a bit too hard, and finished in second place with 146, and Brady Diplock was third with 149.

The Markham Bowl, a nett competition, was played simultaneously. Fraser Maleary won it with a fine score of 134. Mark Smith came in second at 139, and Nick Brown was awarded third on count back with 141.

The ladies played their first official stableford since lockdown ended. Sarah Fryer won it with a score of 39 points. Chelsey Duffy came in second with 37 points. And Deborah Tanner was awarded third on count back with 36, just ahead of Claire Vaughan.

The men also played for the Davis Cup and Davis Medal on the weekend. Ed Glease was the Cup winner with 42 stableford points. Dave Killick was second with a close 41. The Medal goes to the 16 – 28 handicappers. This year’s winner was Malcolm Boucher with 41 points. John Harding came in second with 39 points
